Director of Online Learning

 

Barton College is seeking a full-time Director of Online Learning to provide strategic direction and oversight for online learning, including online programs and online & hybrid courses taught in traditional undergraduate and graduate programs. The Director will be an integral member of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and work with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs to identify and deliver professional development that advances student learning through excellence in teaching. As an online pedagogy and andragogy expert, The Director will work with faculty and staff to deepen online teaching methodology leading to excellence in online teaching and student learning. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage online learning instructional and program enhancement strategies, evaluation tools and professional development protocols, using a variety of instructional technology and design elements;
  • Provide faculty and student support in the areas of instructional design and technology; 
  • Direct on-campus regulatory work assuring delivery of effective online courses;
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the administration and quality of distance learning offerings and all aspects of course management, course availability and semester archives;
  • Manage the College’s Learning Management System (LMS) and serve as a contact with LMS company and other off-site entities engaged with online learning;
  • Collaborate with academic deans and directors to provide oversight and development of online courses;
  • Design, develop and deliver professional development workshops and online training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies, educational best practices, instructional resources, and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning;
  • Stay abreast of trends and future shifts in online education;

 

Other Responsibilities:

  •  Engage with Academic Deans in developing future online programs;
  • Maintain NC SARA/SARA NC membership and reporting;
  • Be an integral member of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning;

Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or related field from an accredited institution of higher education preferred; exceptional and demonstrable experience leading online learning efforts and associated professional development training will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of online teaching or administrative experience in the field of distance learning or continuing education.
  • In-depth understanding of learning management systems.
  • Proven experience in successful planning, creative problem-solving, and effective, entrepreneurial academic administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and proactively accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff from other areas of the College.
