Director of Financial Aid

Barton College is seeking a full-time Director of Financial Aid to manage operations and staff within the Office of Financial Aid. As a vital component of the Enrollment Management team, the Director will keep current with all federal and state guidelines, best practices, and important trends in financial aid.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising, evaluating, coordinating, and/or directing all college functions pertaining to student financial aid
  • Works with various counterparts to achieve expected goals and objectives of the college. 
  • Responsible for hiring, terminating, and evaluating performance of assigned staff.
  • Works in collaboration with enrollment management and business office initiatives. 
  • Understands the financial aid management software, sets up parameters to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Responsible for maintaining the College’s financial aid data to ensure timely and accurate submission of required federal, state, & local reports; creates regular reports throughout the cycle to assist with projections and budgeting.
  • Prepares, tracks, and monitors budgets critical to the fiscal health of the department.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participates in professional organizations and collaborates with state affinity groups and regional organizations to pursue and enhance enrollment initiatives as it pertains to financial aid.
  • Provides cross-training to internal divisions for their staff on financial aid regulations.

Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree is preferred. 
  • A solid background in organizational and data systems management is preferred. 
  • Experience in PowerFAIDS. 
  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, and policies. 
  • Ability to think strategically to understand data and financial planning. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Must feel comfortable and confident when speaking publicly to large crowds. 
  • Has experience with COD and understands reconciliation of Title IV funds. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in Financial Aid, preferably in a private institution of higher education.
