Barton College Homegrown Writes Series Debuts on Sept. 17

WILSON, N.C. — September 1, 2024 — Take time away from your usual routines to enjoy an evening of literary escape. Barton College’s Homegrown Writers Series, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, promises to provide some delightful entertainment as faculty authors share passages from their favorite works. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building. It is open to the public free of charge, and the community is invited to attend.

“Last year, the School of Arts & Humanities and the English Department came up with an idea to have an annual faculty-led event in the fall, followed by a student-led event in the spring,” shares Michael K. Brantley, associate professor of English at Barton. “We had some wonderfully generous and talented faculty showcase their work, and it was capped with a reading by professor emerita Rebecca Godwin reading from her new book. We had a great time and an excellent turnout, and so, we hope to grow from that experience this year.”

Barton faculty readers for this fall’s homegrown literary program will include Morghan Bosch, Luis Ayarza, and Gerard Lange, as well as Barton professor emeritus Jim Clark, who will read and give a musical performance.

“It should be a fun time in the perfect space provided by my art colleague Maureen O’Neill in the Barton Art Galleries,” adds Brantley. “We hope the Wilson community will come enjoy this evening on campus, as well as all the other free literary events we have throughout the year.”
