Allan R. Sharp Religion in Life Series Will Feature “Shannon Baker and sometime soon” on November 4th

WILSON, N.C. –October 18, 2024 — Barton College is excited to welcome “Shannon Baker and sometime soon,” as the featured musicians for the 2024 Allan R. Sharp Religion in Life Series on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. Their performance will be held in Howard Chapel.

“Shannon Baker & sometime soon” is an acoustic bluegrass and country group that reflects those traditional sounds with arrangements featuring their distinct musical qualities blended together. Baker sets a high bar on her lead vocals, with rare energy and amazing quality. Ronnie Parrish, the other founding member of the group, lays the instrumental groundwork with upright bass. Joe Pessolano delivers precision guitar and mandolin work and adds harmony and lead vocal numbers to their sets. John Dudley adds banjo, guitar, and that third part for vocal harmony. Together, they deliver some of those instantly recognizable “old good ones” in a fresh way, and hopefully will introduce the audience to some new “old good ones.”

The band made its Nashville debut in 2022 at the world-famous Station Inn. They’ve traveled up and down the East Coast, from North Carolina to New York, making fans and friends along the way.

Established in 1991, the Allan R. Sharp Religion in Life Series brings to campus each fall semester distinguished performers and lecturers who focus on topics of practical Christian significance for the general public relating to contemporary issues. This endowed series was named in honor of Dr. Allan R. Sharp, professor emeritus of religion and philosophy, at the time of his retirement. The late Dr. Sharp served on the Barton College faculty from 1953-1991.
