Wilson Police Department Barton College District

The Wilson Police Department Barton College District is comprised of an on campus district office with police officers assigned to Barton College and the surrounding neighborhood. The Wilson Police Department provides 24-hour, 7-days-a-week coverage to Barton College by a variety of patrols including foot, bike, car, and mounted.

Barton College Campus Safety utilizes computerized fire and building-access systems.

We also have a video surveillance system throughout the campus. These cameras are located inside some buildings and strategically placed outside to observe and record the campus 24 hours a day. Video terminals at the Central District and at the Barton College District Offices allow the officers to the officers to monitor Barton College remotely and on site.

Audio "call boxes" are located at strategic points on campus and are used to communicate with our office. The on-campus non-emergency numbers are 6510 and 6547. The emergency numbers are 6911, or 911.

Police Response and Authority

The Wilson Police Department officers have authority to enforce all state and local laws, as well as city code violations. The officers have city-wide jurisdiction; however, their assignment is Barton College and the surrounding neighborhood. We will investigate all crimes reported as well as violations of student conduct, which are generally referred to the Office of Student Affairs for judicial review.
