Assistant/Associate Professor of Education

DESCRIPTION:
Barton College seeks candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor appointment, starting August 26, 2010.
DUTIES:
• Teaching courses in Elementary Education at undergraduate and graduate levels
• Collaborating with current faculty and public school personnel
• Supervising students in local schools
• Advising students
• Participating in NCATE re-accreditation and in creating and implementing policies according to North Carolina guidelines
REQUIREMENTS:
• A doctorate in a closely-related field of education is preferred
• Special consideration given to candidates with licensure in Middle Grades Education
• Strong background in teaching mathematics/science methods preferred
• Current teaching license in Elementary Education and public school teaching experience required

Customer Service Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Office of Financial Aid
DESCRIPTION:
Barton College seeks a financial aid professional for the position of Customer Service Coordinator.
DUTIES:
• Managing the in-office and telephone customer service flow
• Communicating with students and parents regarding all financial aid opportunities and issues
• Greeting students and families in person and by telephone and assessing their financial aid needs
• Researching student financial aid issues and communicating resolutions to students and families
• Routing visitors and phone calls to the appropriate financial aid staff member
• Processing ISIRS using EdConnect and EdExpress and printing reports from each
• Organizing and processing all financial aid award letter distributions
• Assisting the Director with Pell Grant program data input
• Coordinating the Federal Work Study program, including processing time sheets
• Supervising the financial aid office's student workers
• Opening and sorting mail
• Other duties as assigned by the Director
REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or higher
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
• Ability to perform work accurately and with attention to detail is essential

Director of Development
DEPARTMENT: Office of Institutional Advancement
DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Development is responsible for seeking out opportunities for developing and implementing initiatives to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects to ensure a strong base of ongoing financial support for the College. The Director plans, coordinates, and administers specific areas of annual and special project fundraising. More specifically, the Director is primarily responsible for managing the growth and activities of the Barton Society; serving as the development liaison to the Department of Athletics; and overseeing an effective annual fund program.
The Director of Development reports to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and is an integral part of a strong, close-knit team devoted to collaborative decision-making and to helping shape the future of Barton College.
DUTIES:
• Managing a portfolio of 75+ prospects and donors by participating in active cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts related to the Barton Society and special project fundraising
• Overseeing the Barton Society with a primary focus on retention and upgrading Society members
• Developing an annual Society solicitation and stewardship plan, including but not limited to direct mail fundraising materials, Society newsletter, and Society events
• Managing an effective annual fund program that focuses on increasing unrestricted funds through direct mail and phone-a-thon solicitation, as well as personal contact
• Working with the Office of Athletics to coordinate and manage the Bulldog Club, the corporate sponsorship program, and special project fundraising
• Serving on the Major Gift Team
• Overseeing development staff as opportunities arise
• Writing appropriate articles for the College's Scope magazine under the direction of the public relations and marketing team
• Overseeing the production of the College's annual Honor Roll of Donors
• Serving as staff support for a variety of institutional advancement events
• Assuming other duties deemed necessary within the development operation
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
• Minimum of five years of professional fundraising experience, preferably in higher education
• Proven successful track record of soliciting and closing gifts
• Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and details
• Creative and willing to think beyond traditional fundraising practices
• Effective time management skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Position requires some travel and a commitment to working some evenings and weekends

Director of Financial Aid
DEPARTMENT: Office of Financial Aid
DESCRIPTION:
Barton College seeks a dynamic, highly skilled financial aid professional to serve as the Director of Financial Aid. The Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the Vice President for External Relations.
DUTIES:
• Providing leadership and vision to manage the College financial aid budget
• Providing ongoing financial projections and data analysis
• Making recommendations on awarding policies and procedures to meet College enrollment goals
• Packaging and reviewing student aid awards
• Communicating with students and parents regarding financial aid awards and financial aid counseling
• Providing enhanced internal and external communication systems to inform students and parents about financial aid policies and procedures
• Producing all external reports regarding the distribution of financial aid
• Developing and implementing database systems to track financial aid expenditures and make future projections
• Managing endowed scholarship accounts
• Maintaining professional connections in state and national financial aid organizations
• Hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff
• Managing the department operational budget
REQUIREMENTS:
• A bachelor's degree with at least three to five years of financial aid administrative experience at the Director or Associate level; an advanced degree is desirable
• Thorough knowledge to monitor and comply with state and federal regulations regarding student aid programs and direct budget development and packaging experience to meet enrollment and budget goals
• Direct experience with PowerFaids software is desirable
• Strong financial management background
• Excellent analytical skills
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with students and parents
• Commitment to student access, service, and diversity
• Ability to work collaboratively with the admissions and business offices is essential
